Sam Goodwill – ‘History’ (2012)

This is a wonderfully sophisticated record. Sam Goodwill is quite obviously the super nice guy you know in school who also happens to be mega talented, humble about it too. He sings like a man three times his age, writes songs that go all over the place whilst tethered to a clearly felt centre, and he does it all with soul. Not just soul, but soul. A damn fine record, to put it bluntly. Highlights are many, but ‘Good Problems’ is always my standout, as it is the point where that soul thing comes shining through. I don’t know how many people are aware of this album, but I kinda feel like if more people knew it then it would be a big deal. Like, an actual big deal. Find it.
